Downcountry compared to Cross Country (XC) geometry

Downcountry geometry is progressive with stable handling. It is better for long, less technical climbs and descents. Cross Country geometry is contemporary with quicker race-centric handling.

If you're not sure which design is better for your type of riding, choose cross country rather than downcountry. You cannot go wrong with Seven's multipurpose XC geometry.

Attribute Cross Country Downcountry
Overall Handling Quicker handling More stable handling
Optimal Terrain & Surface Technical, rocky, rooty Gravel, fire roads, flow
Climbing Short, steep, punchy climbs Long steady climbs
Descending Short, steep, technical descents Long, fast, flowing switchbacks
Speed Twisty, turny speed Straight line speed
Technical Trails Lives for tight, twisty, technical riding Prefers swoopy flowy terrain
Frameset Geometry Contemporary: Shorter wheelbase, steeper head tube angle, classic rider center of gravity. "East Coast" riding. Progressive: Slacker head tube angle, longer wheelbase, steeper seat tube angle, center of gravity biased over rear wheel; lighter front end. "West Coast" and "Rocky Mountain" riding.

Custom Designed or Rider-Ready?

We offer two ways to get a handmade Seven: Custom or Rider-Ready.

Rider-Ready Bikes

Seven's Rider-Ready bikes are handbuilt in our Massachusetts factory by the most experienced titanium builders on the planet. And ready to ride in only weeks. We offer three suspension bike models in 24 sizes each for perfect fit and the best ride performance you'll ever experience. Learn more about our Rider-Ready designs.

Full Custom Designs

With our custom design program, we can build any model with just about any geometry, ride characteristics, performance type, and features you want. Custom bike lead time changes seasonally. Currently, the majority of our custom suspension bikes take about 13 weeks to 16 weeks to design and build, depending on the model, features, and parts kit.

Which suspension design features doesn't Seven offer?

We don't design for rear suspension travel of more than 120 mm. We don't design for fork travel of more than 140 mm. We don't build enduro bikes, downhill bikes, or anything in those categories. We don't offer electric assist bikes. We do not offer internally geared bikes (like Pinion and Rohloff). For single-speed designs, we do not build with slider dropouts; instead, we use eccentric bottom brackets. We don't offer frame bag or bento box mounts. We don't build travel optimized suspension designs.

3 reasons to get a Rider-Ready Seven: Faster, Farther, Forthwith

ONE: Ride Faster. Allroads speed doesn't just come from being able to accelerate fast — although the Ready accelerates with the best. Sustained speed is what's important. This comes from control in the form of more precise cornering, improved traction at the edges of capability, confident descending, flow over rocks and roots, and the active use of body English to get you through it all more gracefully and scuff-free. Get ready for more personal FKTs.

TWO: Ride Farther. Longer rides are better rides. At least it's true when riding Seven's handbuilt titanium frame, unique tubeset spec, optimized geometry, and more refined rider fit options. You'll find you can ride longer, over rougher terrain, and feel better at the end of the day.

THREE: Available Right Now! That's why we call this bike The Ready. Order today, and you can be riding in about three weeks. Framesets are ready to go in a week. Faster to you. Faster under you. Let's Ride!

Why choose Seven as your suspension bike builder?

Why choose Seven's dual suspension bike?

Seven's BCS Suspension System is one of the most sophisticated suspension designs available —with the results to back it up. Race winning design: Seven's suspension has been raced by USA team members at multiple national and world championships over the past few years. Experience: We've built thousands of individualized suspension bikes over the past 26 years. Seven's founding team were all mountain bike racers back in the day.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx So many reasons. Here are a few.

  • More choices mean a better bike for you. Seven has a broader model range of allroads bikes than just about any company, large or small. More models to choose from means a better bike for the kind of riding you want to do.
  • More Framebuilding Experience: Most Sevens are built by three artisans — a framebuilder, a welder, and a framewright. On average, these three have over 40 years of framebuilding experience. There are no more experienced titanium builders on the planet. This depth helps us build better bikes.
  • More Titanium Experience: Without a doubt, titanium is the best frame material for allroads bikes. It's tough, durable, enhances comfort and handling performance, and it's impervious to weather. Seven's founders have been building titanium bikes for 37 years, without interruption, and longer than anyone else. 30-plus years ago, Seven's founders developed the titanium tube specification that is still widely used today. If you want something built of titanium, there is no more knowledgeable team to choose.
  • Made in the USA. Our founding team has been building bikes in Massachusetts for more than three-and-a-half decades. There are a lot of reasons we build bikes this way. In the end, all that really matters is whether you can feel the difference in the ride. We find that most riders do.
