Jeremy Kampp lives and rides in the Pacific Northwest. He rides an Evergreen S adventure bike and a Mudhoney SL race bike. This is the first of what we hope will be many of his shared adventures.
Fog swirls through the cedar trees in the fading light of dusk as frogs croak somewhere near the flowing river in the darkness beyond. I’m in Olympic National Park nestled in the Sol Duc valley anticipating the next days mixed terrain ride. An early spring adventure to mark the return of soft light giving way to vibrant sunshine that had retreated to the South for the winter.
Warmed against the 34F morning with eggs, bagel and coffee I pedal over a bridge spanning the Sol Duc river. A sleepy two-lane road winds along the river descending under the canopy of moss and trees of the temperate rainforest. Although I’m vaguely aware that this thrilling winding and rolling descent will be a climb on my return I laugh it off with a whoop and pedal harder.
Black tarmac with a double yellow stripe yields to brown squishy soil littered with decayed leaves, yellow green lichen and derailleur grabbing broken branches. I pedal on the shoulder of Lake Crescent. With a 40c tire on my Evergreen S the varied terrain is a great match. Only the creek crossings, downed trees, and a rock slide prompt me to hike.
Time passes on the trail among ancient trees and flowing waters. Salt crystals on my cheeks remind me of the summer rides to come. For now the gentle spring rain begins to needle down upon my helmet and drip off the brim of my hat. My ride is complete except for the rest I take falling back into the soft moss bed below a tree in the forest.
Here are a pair of beautiful builds completed with our good friend Steve at Cycle Logic in Cornwall, UK. Apparently, we charmed Damien thoroughly enough with his first build, the Axiom SL, that he came back for an Evergreen S the following season. Some kind words and great photos below.
I am lucky enough to have two Seven bicycles, an Axiom SL and an Evergreen S. Both are the best bikes I have ever ridden and were sourced via Cycle Logic in Helston, Cornwall. I absolutely love the custom fit, unique quality of the titanium and superb workmanship. Both took me ages to save up for and are worth every penny.

This is Chris’s Evergreen S, another beautiful bike turned out by our friends at Ride Studio Cafe in Lexington, MA. This one features a custom vinyl decal scheme in red and see-through titanium.

I love the geometry! Great descending bike and my back is really liking the slightly taller front end!
Here’s the build:
-Chris King Headset, 44 mm
-Whiskey No. 9 fork with through axle and fender mounts (nice stiff fork, but the fender mount is located too close to the head tube and is not compatible with any existing fenders on the market)
-Wheels: DT Swiss 240s hubs laced to Pacenti SL25 rims, Specialized Robaix 32 mm tires (nice tires!)
-Shimano components: Shimano mechanical hydraulic disc brakes, R 685 STI 11-speed levers and RS 785 brake caliper set, Shimano Ice tech rotors, Dura ace compact 50 x 34 crankset, Shimano Ultegra 6800 long cage derailleur, Shimano Dura Ace front derailleur
-Shimano Pro PLT handlebars, Thompson seatpost and bar
-Brooks Cambium C15 carved saddle…nice saddle for me for short distances, but I have a tendency to sit where the rivets are located. So I’ve since put my trustworthy Cobb saddle on this bike as well.

What’s in a commuter?
Keith was looking for a bike that could be everything — daily commuter through Brooklyn and Manhattan, upstate dirt crusher — a bike that would look good, and ride even better.
The Evergreen was the best platform for this super-build.
The first bike we built for Keith, a couple years ago, was a custom painted Parlee. Titanium frames are magic, so we didn’t need any paint on the Evergreen. The Chris King Turquoise kit gives the bike just the right amount of zing. To give the bike a well rounded personality, we laced the hubs to Hed Belgium Plus rims. The wheels can take a 25mm race tire, or a 35mm plushy deluxe (the Compass Bon Jon Pass will be nice). The Evergreen’s personality changes right with the tires.
We dialed the geometry for stability, we dialed the acceleration to 11. This was the note we received from Keith after his first ride:
“Rode in today and damn man…the best way to describe the ride is it floats on the road.”
